Cheryl Gregory – From Rudderless to Resilient
About Cheryl
I love to coach, study neuroscience and human behaviour and now I apply hypnotherapy techniques in my practice. After practicing as a Certified Hypnotherapist, I returned to school and earned a diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy. It has become an enhancement to my coaching with the powerful tools of hypnosis that help people move beyond stress, anxiety, and limiting patterns into calm, confident and free.
My Story
“It’s not me” … the most powerful statement an abuse victim needs to understand and believe.
My name is Cheryl Gregory a thriving narcissistic, and spousal abuse survivor. This is something very few people know about me … and was difficult for me to acknowledge … much less know what to do about it.
I was born into a family with a narcissistic father, and kept finding myself in the company of, or attracting, people into my life with similar behaviours … the relentless verbal attacks, stonewalling, guilt-tripping, tormenting, gaslighting, manipulation, guilt-tripping literally change who you are. Sound familiar? You put the “face” on that tells everyone you’re OK … but you’re not. These cyclical patterns of abuse are signposts of what we refer to today as CPTSD. Growing up, that term didn’t even exist.
In one relationship I had, again with a narcissist, we had a disagreement that rapidly caused him to attack and choke me. Fortunately my training in martial arts ended that. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. Interestingly, when I told my father what happened, there was no reaction… He didn’t look at me; he didn’t respond at all. It was as if I wasn’t even there.
When someone did come into my life that was the real deal, offering me authentic love, I didn’t recognize it, and rejected them, returning back to the “familiar chaos” I was conditioned to. This describes a trauma bond.
Later in life, I found solutions on my own that helped me heal, including the many triggers I learned as defence mechanisms. But it took MANY years of reading, webinars, learning and practice. I had to figure out who I was and what my values were. I realized I had to connect with myself first before I could connect with the rest of the world. That’s why I use the tagline Master the Art of Human Connection.
I believe you need to go inside yourself first to figure out who you really are, and what drives you, instead of looking externally for someone or something else to fix you.
I did the work to figure out the triggers related to the negative emotions experienced in childhood and why they were having such a negative impact on my work and personal life. That paved the way for me to take the steps I needed to heal.
I finally learned to believe “It’s NOT me”. I wasn’t the one causing all the problems in the world. It was the behaviour of my father that turned everything around to make it look that way, while he walked around totally innocent. Now, I’m not perfect, but at least now I know what I can truly be held accountable and responsible for.
Now I enjoy a significantly happier life, making choices in the people and experiences I want to include in my life, ones that enhance my joy.
My purpose is to help other people overcome traumatic experiences in their lives that affect them in unproductive and sometimes harmful ways … and I want to affect healing and change faster for them than it took for me.
I am a former President turned Executive Coach and have invested years working with human behaviour through study, observation, first-hand experience, mentoring, coaching, and leading.
There are many horror stories of people affected by toxic relationships, stress, or anxiety … often leading to unproductive habits, turning to addiction or unhealthy eating habits, negative mind sets and poor health. I learned that many times what you THINK is the problem (the presenting issue) only hides behind the real issue.
The real issues exist in the unconscious mind and for the most part, relate to memories or experiences from childhood. And while we may not be aware of them in our daily life, they do affect our thoughts, beliefs and our behaviour patterns.
Hypnotherapy helps us work together on a common goal to free those negative patterns, so we can replace them with positive and more productive patterns, resulting in new perspectives to our lives.
Case Study
One of my clients came to me wanting to stop smoking. After we spoke for a while, more issues began to unravel. She was dealing with high levels of stress and anxiety, and it was apparent that smoking was the activity she used to calm herself.
I decided to work with her to dramatically reduce her emotional responses to stress and anxiety first, to bring her some relief. Interestingly, the smoking urge disappeared with the stressors.
For her, smoking was the solution. For others it could be eating, not eating, drinking too much alcohol, or something else.
The key was that she opened up to me, which made it more effective for her treatment.
We Work Together
What’s important is the relationship we have in a safe environment, with trust, confidentiality and openness. This allows us to go deep into your unconscious mind and “weed out” the negative and replace it with positive thoughts and behaviours of the person you want to be.
I want to give YOU the power to do something about your future.
That’s why I created Master the Art of Human Connection … and the most important part is getting YOU to connect with yourself first … the rest will follow naturally …
What I Offer You
Whether in-person or online, I use hypnotherapy, NLP, somatic, and neuroscience-based tools to align your conscious and unconscious minds. You’ll leave each session with practical tools to create lasting change — for your health, happiness, and success.
Sessions are customized 100% to your needs and all your private information is kept confidential.
The myth about hypnotherapy is that you lose control, you’re put to sleep and may do something you don’t want to do …
… the exact opposite is true … I help you gain the control you need to manage yourself in any situation. When you’re in a trance, you are in a daydream-like, deeply focussed state, and at all times you are aware of your surroundings … and when you “return” to the present, you bring with you tools and learnings that create lasting change.
