Ground Yourself

Does your head spin when everything comes at you at the same time?

Grounding is the best thing you can do to become calm and present. It helps you:

  • Focus more intently on your work and become less prone to distraction and procrastination.
  • Build a firm foundation for your creative ideas.
  • Manage your time more effectively and get the important things done.

It’s fast and easy…you don’t have to go anywhere, light candles or incense, or any of that. You can do it in the car, at your desk … anywhere.

There are a couple of methods. Try them both next time you want to get calm and present, and see which one works better for you.

Method 1:

  • Sit or stand
  • Close your eyes (except if you’re driving), relax, and breathe softly.
  • Feel your energy passing down your body, through your feet and into the floor.
  • Focus on the flow of energy as you breathe slowly for 5-10 breaths.
  • When you’re ready, open your eyes and notice how refreshed you feel and how your mind feels calmer.
  • Continue with your day in a better state that just a few minutes ago.

Method 2 (same idea, but in the reverse direction):

  • Sit or stand
  • Close your eyes (except if you’re driving), relax, and breathe softly.
  • Feel your energy passing up, as if from the earth’s centre, through the bottom of your feet and up your body, through the top of your head.
  • Focus on the flow of energy as you breathe slowly for 5-10 breaths.
  • When you’re ready, open your eyes and notice how refreshed you feel and how your mind feels calmer.
  • Continue with your day in a better state that just a few minutes ago.

Which one felt better for you? I’d love to know.

Doing this regularly will help you stay ”in your own body”, maintain a calm mind, make better decisions, and focus on the things that matter.

These are some of the techniques used in the Master the Art of Human Connection programs.
